Sacramental Preparation

At St. Simon, our 2nd Graders in both St. Simon School and Sunday Faith
Formation Classes participate in a year-long experience of prayer, learning and development. Our program is designed to be integral, thorough and accessible, incorporating lessons and experiences from a second grader’s life. The program is also designed to commingle our Faith Formation and School
children so as to emphasize our interconnectedness both as children of God and as St. Simon’s total worshiping family.

Furthermore, we view the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Eucharist as inherently interrelated and as forming a seamless, sacramental experience for our children. We feel that this provides a sense of continuity that will cultivate understanding and appreciation of the Sacraments in their adult lives.

Reconciliation

This Sacrament will be celebrated on a Saturday in December 2008.

First Eucharist

Preparation begins in January. Candidates must be enrolled in Faith Formation Classes or at St. Simon School. Registration is required.  First Eucharist will be celebrated Saturday, April 26, 2008.

Baptism

First time parents or parents who have never received formal baptism preparation classes are required to attend a Baptism Preparation Class.  Pre-registration is required for this class. Parents may call or come by the Office of Faith Formation to set a Baptism date and to pre-register for the class with Judi Sullivan (826-6000 x 113) or email jsullivan@saintsimon.org. Note also that parents must be registered, active parishioners for at least three months before they may have their child baptized. Once parents register and begin attending Mass regularly, the required three months begins; their Prep Class will most likely occur during these three months.

Alternatively, parents moving from another parish in which they were actively
involved can obtain a letter of support from their previous parish, requesting a
waiver of the three month time period.

Baptisms are held twice a month after the 11:00 am Sunday mass. Click here for additional Baptism Information.  Click here for the Registration form.

Confirmation

This sacrament for High School Sophomores is held in the spring and is coordinated by the Youth Minister.  For more information, contact the Office of Youth Ministry at 826-6000 ext 151. Confirmation will be held Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at SS. Peter and Paul Cathedral.
