Youth Ministry...
The heart of Youth Ministry is the Adolescents and Young Adults
of the Catholic Church. The Catholic Church recognizes eight essential
components for a holistic Youth Ministry for a parish.
Community Evangelization:
Offering an atmosphere in which the youth feels welcome and “at
home”. Reaching out to the youth and including them
Catechesis: Sharing our Faith and spiritual journey
with the youth
Advocacy: Believing in the youth and being a voice
for them
Justice & Service: Encouraging them to help
someone in need and to do the “right thing”
Leadership: Mentoring and developing the youth
to be leaders
Pastoral Care: Taking time to listen to the youth
Prayer & Worship: Encouraging a prayer life
in which the youth feel close to God
The Youth Minister’s role is to serve as a community organizer
for his or her parish in networking for the youth and giving the youth
a voice in the parish. He or she focuses on integrating the 8 components
while utilizing the parish community as a rich resource in building
an intergenerational community.
In collaboration with the Youth Minister and Pastor, the Youth Commission
develops a mission statement for Saint Simon’s Youth Ministry.
Based on this statement, they develop bylaws, establish a budget,
form policy, advocate and support the youth, pray for the youth
and do long-range planning. Moreover, they recruit volunteers for
the program, evaluate the program and provide accountability. St.
Simon currently has 10 adults and 3 High School Youth serving on
the Commission.
The Youth Ministry Commission of Saint Simon Parish is called to serve
as advocates for our youth and their families in our parish community.
We will strive to create a welcoming community for all the youth
that enters the doors of Saint Simon. It is our mission to allow the
youth of Saint Simon to grow in their faith and become participating
members through their involvement in and with the parish community.
