The Eucharist is "the source and summit of the Christian life." 136 LG 11.
First Eucharist is the second of the Sacrament of Initiation. All students in 2nd grade, who have received formal religious education for one year either at St. Simon parish or through another parish and is currently registered in Faith Formation class or who have attended St. Simon School, will take part in the formation process for the sacrament of First Eucharist.
During this formation period a mandatory Family Session and a Super Saturday retreat will take place as part of the preparation for this sacrament and is intended for parents and their child.
The First Eucharist family session will include a sacramental talk and activities for the student and family. The Super Saturday retreat provides activities and instruction on aspects of the Eucharist and concludes with an Agape celebration/blessing for the child and his or her family.
We will have two First Eucharist ceremonies. During the Family Session in January each family will have the opportunity to complete a ceremony selection form and choose their first and second date options for the First Eucharist ceremony. Within a week, the Office of Faith Formation will notify your family of the ceremony date you have been assigned. We will do our best to provide each family with their first choice.
There is a $50.00 fee per child for both First Eucharist and First Reconciliation which will be due in the fall. The Parish Office requires an official baptismal certificate with church seal be obtained from the church where the child was baptized. Please provide this to the Office of Faith Formation at the beginning of the year. If your child was baptized at St. Simon the Apostle, no official baptismal certificate needs to be submitted. Those families will need to complete the Baptismal Information Form for our records. This is located on our website and can be sent electronically to jsullivan@saintsimon.org Everyone is required to be a registered parishioner prior to receiving the sacrament.
