"The whole power of the sacrament of Penance consists in restoring us to God's grace and joining us with him in an intimate friendship." Roman Catechism, II, V,18.
First Reconciliation or Penance is one of the Sacraments of Healing. Any 2nd grader who has received formal catechesis and has been enrolled in Sunday Religious Education classes or Saint Simon the Apostle school will receive the sacrament of First Reconciliation. As part of the preparation for First Reconciliation, the parents and child must attend the Family Session in the fall which includes the Rite of Enrollment, a sacramental talk and a reflective family activity.
The sacrament of First Reconciliaion will begin with a prayer service. There will be visiting clergy from surrounding parishes that will assist us with this healing celebration.
There is a $50.00 fee per child for the sacraments which is due in the fall. The parish office requires an official baptismal certificate to be obtained with a seal from the church where the child was baptized. Please provide this to the Office of Faith Formation at the beginning of the year. If your child was baptized at St. Simon the Apostle, no certicate need be submitted. Complete the First Eucharist Form for our records.
Everyone is required to be a registered parishioner prior to receiving the sacrament.
