Music Ministry
The St. Simon Music Ministry welcomes all volunteers who are interested in serving! You may be an amature to very skilled, yet all are welcome and we joyfully serve together in this ministry. There are opportunities for vocalists, instrumentalists, and other volunteering. Adult Choir
The Adult Choir sings at the 9:15am Mass. Rehearsal attendance is encouraged yet not always required. Rehearsal is on Thursdays at 6:45pm and every other Thursday during the summer. Those who cannot attend rehearsal are given music ahead of time and come thirty minutes before Mass to practice.
There is no special choral music at the 11:00am Mass except for Solemnities/Feasts. Most members cannot attend rehearsal and come thirty minutes before Mass at the Daily Mass Chapel. Rehearsal is encouraged before Holy Week, Easter, and Christmas.
Instruments
The 11:00 Mass has acoustic guitar with piano. There is a guitarist schedule so guitarists play only once a month and do not have to dedicate to every Sunday. If you are an amateur guitarist you are welcome to “shadow” guitarists at Mass. If you are interested please contact the music director.
If you play a brass or string instrument you are welcome to play at the 9:15 or 11:00 Mass. Please contact the music director to arrange rehearsal.
Currently instrumentalists arrange a time to meet with the music director for rehearsal. A musician’s rehearsal (outside of Thursday) is being coordinated.
Saturday 5:30 Mass
There is a folk/cotemporary feel at the Saturday 5:30pm Vigil Mass. Guitarists/bass and vocalists practice on Saturday at 4 or 4:30 p.m. If you are a skilled or experienced guitarist and are interested in playing at the 5:30 Mass, please contact the music director. Those interested in singing should contact the music director and attend the Saturday practice. (Thursday rehearsals are not for the 5:30 Mass. To sing or play at the 5:30 Mass, attending practice at 4:30 is required.)
Cantors
A cantor is well versed in music and has a basic understanding of the Liturgy. The cantor leads and encourages the congregation in song. Usually the cantor will sing the Responsorial Psalm and announce the songs for worship.
Cantors who sing at the 9:15 or 11:00 Mass, need to attend rehearsal on a regular basis. Cantors who sing at the 8:00 a.m. Mass, need to be confident in music and liturgy and do not have to attend Thursday rehearsal. If you are interested in becoming a cantor, please contact Holly Repp.
Youth Music Ministry
There are two youth choirs. The middle school choir (5th-8thgrade) sings at a 5:30 p.m. Mass once a month. The high school choir sings at Prayer & Praise. Prayer & Praise is the second Sunday of every month at 5:30pm. It is Adoration with praise and worship music. More about youth music ministry can be found at www.saintsimonmusicministry.blogspot.com.
Children’s Church Choir
The 2nd-5th grade children’s Church Choir will be singing for Epiphany, January 8th, at the 9:15 Mass! Rehearsals are Thursdays at 6pm in the Church. The dates are 1st, 15th, 22nd, and 5th. K-1 Children’s Church Choir
