School Commission Goals

Communication

Foster, improve and expand communication between the School Commission and the staff and community of Saint Simon as we strive for harmony in our faith community.

Action Items:

  1. Post 2006/2007 School Commission meeting dates and goals on bulletin board.
  2. Post School Commission meeting minutes in timely fashion on bulletin board.
  3. Send approved School Commission minutes to website coordinator for timely inclusion on the website.
  4. Keep the "Ask the School Commission" box by the school office. Implement “Ask the School Commission” on the website. Provide answers to questions in the school newsletter.
  5. Receive copies of the minutes to parish council, faith formation commission, PFO, youth commission and finance committee.
  6. Coordinate, once a semester, a listening session in conjunction with a PFO meeting.

Spirituality

Foster a sense of spirituality with the School Commission.

Action Items:

  1. School Commission members will be actively involved in a parish ministry.
  2. School Commission members will be responsible for the opening prayer at least once per school year.
  3. Promote Gospel values, teamwork and open, candid and respectful communication in all interactions with fellow commission members.
  4. School Commission members will be encouraged to attend mass at Saint Simon Parish to increase their knowledge of and respect for the teachings of Christ.
  5. School Commission members will demonstrate a strong presence during Holy Week.

Finance

Exercise fiscal responsibility.

Action Items:

  1. Monitor adherence to the 2006/2007 budget by monthly review of financial reports generated by Greg Chiles.
  2. Generate sound budget for 2006/2007 school year.
  3. Explore replacement of TAP funding for use after 3-year TAP grant expires.
  4. Research and develop strategies to reduce costs of expense items within control of the School Commission.
  5. Update line item descriptions for use by school commission and administration in monitoring compliance with 2006/2007 Budget and in developing the budget for 2007/2008 school year.

Academic

Support the administration's efforts to continually improve the educational offerings at Saint Simon.

Action Items:

  1. Support the North Central Accreditation process this year.
  2. Demonstrate a commitment to staff development by providing opportunity for professional growth and development.
  3. Assist the administration in researching better use of the school day.
  4. Establish an appropriate method for tracking progress.
  5. Re-establish the technology committee to develop a comprehensive long-term strategy (3, 5 and 10 years).

Promote a safe environment in which our students may thrive.
