Special Religious Development
What is SPRED? SPRED is a religious education program specifically designed to meet the spiritual needs of persons with disabilities. Through SPRED, our special friends get to know God and grow in faith along with others within our community. SPRED welcomes persons with developmental disabilites who are 6 years old to adult.
Who can volunteer? We welcome adult parishioners (21 years or older) interested in becoming Helper Catechists to guide and encourage our special friend by giving them their friendship on this enriching journey. No previous experience in teaching or working with children with special needs is necessary. Volunteers participate in SPRED sessions once a week for 24 weeks during the year. Twelve of those sessions include our friends with disabilities and twelve sessions are planning and faith enriching experiences for the volunteer catechists.
