RCIA provides an opportunity to learn more about the Catholic Church in order to make an informed decision for those interested in entering into full communion with the Church.
Once that decision is made, preparation for the reception of the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Holy Eucharist, and Confirmation) and Reconciliation takes place. Candidates and Catechumens are brought into the Church at the Easter Vigil.
Using the US Catholic Catechism for Adults, the Church's basic teachings are discussed. These include Scripture and Tradition; Eucharist and the True Presence; Apostolic Succession; Mary and the Saints; Moral and Social Justice teachings; Liturgy; the Sacraments, and Faith.

Adult Formation / Confirmation
Adults who have been raised in the Catholic faith, Baptized in the Catholic tradition, and have received the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist but have not been Confirmed are required to prepare to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. Traditionally, the Archbishop of Indianapolis will confer the Sacrament on adults at the Cathedral of Ss. Peter and Paul on (or near) the feast of Pentecost. Adults who have been baptized, catechized in the Christian faith, and are contemplating conversion to Catholicism are also invited to attend these Adult formation classes. These classes may serve as a gateway to more faith instruction or full communion in the Catholic Church. Preparation includes eight sessions of catechetical instruction and a retreat for adults in early March.
